The person who is the subject of the biography typically someone who played an important role in the events that have had a lasting impact on society or has made distinctive ideas and plans, that are recorded in a certain method. Barbara Heck has left no notes or correspondence. Her date of marriage as an example is unsupported by evidence. The primary documents that were used by Heck to explain the reasons behind her actions and motives are lost. But she's become a heroic figure in the early time of Methodism in North America. The biographer must define the mythology, define the story and identify the individual who is enshrined within.

Abel Stevens, a Methodist historian in 1866, wrote about this. Barbara Heck has taken the first place on the New World's ecclesiastical lists because of the growth of Methodism. It is more important to think about the significance of her accomplishments with regard to her legacy from her great cause than the story of her life. Barbara Heck's participation with the early days of Methodism was a synchronicity that happened to be a lucky one. Her fame is due to her involvement in a successful organization or movement will celebrate their roots in order to maintain ties to the past and be rooted to it.
